I recently had the chance to visit this headquarters location for The Up Center and was visiting for the first time trying to get a person some needed help. This person had been a client for the Up Center before and had some verbal argument history with them. They had refused to become his payee and sent this denial letter to social security administration. We were there to rectify the situation and the Up center refused to hear anything in this regard.
They must have their reasons but I feel like a person should be given a second chance.

I met the most disrespectful receptionist! I brought a homeless family who are struggling with 6 children in to see if they could offer assistance. This woman was very smug and pompous with her response when stating that they don't provide financial assistance. When I asked about housing for families in crisis, once again, she arrogantly replied that they do not. I had to ask her if they, at the very least, had a resource list which she slowly took her time to give to me.

People like this don't belong in the human services field, especially with families and people in crisis! They lack empathy, courtesy, and compassion.

Do better Up Center!

Although the services get done (for the most part), there are alot of downs with this company. They don't tell you when the monthly fee rises. They don't call anyone when a request can't go through. They don't really call to let you know anything for that matter. They don't answer the phone after 3, no matter how long they're open. It's a constant game of trying to figure out/learn new things when they don't teach you anything about how everything works with them during your time with them. The payees switch (Quit) out so often, that you may possibly have 3+ different people assigned to you in the spam of a month, so if you were working with someone on something, it getting picked up by the next person is not guaranteed. Depending on who you have and how long they even stay, your bills may be postponed for up to 2 months. They ask for different ways to process your bills, which not only make it take longer, but may not even do it right because it takes longer. In a timeframe big enough for bills to stack. And last but not least, you try to leave & ask what to do next. Not only do they give you the wrong instructions, as differs from SS themselves, proving that the company is completely unupdated & unknowledgeable on the important matter of switching out of the company smoothly & correctly, but they also don't mind dumping you asap without any communicationon when they decide to do so, making sure to drag it just long enough to take more fee money and leaving you with nothing financially, sending to you figure the situation out yourself. Let me be clear. I requested a leave of their services & asked how to do so. I got answers that didn't at all line up with what was correct. Once I found the information *myself* & told them, it was a new month, which I told *the same person* before, was what I wanted to avoid so I wouldn't have to pay another fee. They went ahead and did what they were supposed to do. At the wrong time. Without even a phone call to confirm. I had to call *days* after it was already done to hear about it, when I was really going to ask them to just finish the month out when I just *paid* for it. Again! So now they have that fee. Completely paid for incomplete services. For those looking for a reliable & trustworthy company, I don't recommend up.

They do not work with you in a professional manner and do not inform you of all of your need to know information until it's entirely too late!!! For instance they've had me loose my car due to non payment not made by them cause of them diligently not caring for anyone but themselves. If you are to care for your clients and help them to prevail within LIFE why would yoi drop the ball on something that the client is dependent on which is their own well earned government funds to have them survive and it was earned by Me serving my country as a United States Army Sergeant that put his life on the line for this Country that was well defended and stood up for during Operation Iraqi Freedom Operation Enduring Freedom. Why am I looked at as if I can't have access to my own funds when needed to pay up on things that I see fit for my family.

I was referred to this agency by Portsmouth Behavioral health. I called them at least 5x, no one called me back nor was i given an appointment. I understand they may be busy but you still need to manage cases properly and this is the field that they CHOSE to work in, so if you don't like your job or don't want to help why not change careers. You shouldn't play with people's mental health.

If only there was a negative star scale. I was referred to this place for their rep-payee services. This has to be the most incompetent cluster in Va. The checks are always late, they duck calls, they don't return calls, and when you do actually talk to them it's all excuses and attitude, and they treat you like dirt. Please do your self a favor and avoid this place.
