William Prater has done the Trust's for my entire family. He did my parents, then my sister's family. He recently did my trust, which was very complicated because I have children with special needs, so it had to be a special needs trust. We were very happy with the outcome and the price.

Mr. Prater prepared a complicated estate plan for my parents. He made certain he knew exactly how they wanted things done. He prepared quality paperwork that accomplished exactly what they wanted. His prices were extremely reasonable. He responded to our questions and later contacted us about changes in the law and steps we might want to take to address them. He was extremely knowledgeable and good at explaining things in plain English. I would recommend him without reservation.

Our Family Trust lawyer Bill Prater has managed our concerns for over 19 years. During that time, we have transitioned from work to retirement. Bill's advice has always been sound, judicious, and appropriate to our needs. We highly recommend Bill Prater without any reservations because he is exceptionally professional, knowledgeable, wise, approachable, and articulate.
Sincerely,
Mike and Catherine Legge

My wife called to see what it would cost to update our trust. Mr. Prater did the first version several years earlier and we needed some minor changes made as ourcircumstances had changed. We didn't live in the area any longer, so she called some local attorneys to see what it would cost to start over as a comparison.

Mr. Prater said based on his hourly rate, it would be $300 - $400.00 to revise the original documents. We had another quote of $600.00 or so to start over, so we went with Mr. Prater, assuming it would be the lower cost which made sense since he still had all the original documents on file digitally. You would assume, it would be a fairly easy task to make the changes to the existing files.

We went back and forth with the process. The final documents were an obvious cut and paste job as in several places, he had my wife's name as someone else. There were some errors and other issues which we had a hard time resolving.

Then once it was finally done and we went to our local bank to notarize it, there were still places with my wife's name as someone else. We got it notarized and sent back to him, and then we got the bill. The final bill was over $1000.00.

There were things we were billed for that we didn't even ask him to do. There were also some double billed items on the bill. We sent him an e-mail on two separate occasions trying to get him to explain why certain charges were on the bill. He would never even give us the courtesy of a response. We explained in the final e-mail that we would not pay the bill until he addressed the mystery charges. Still no response.

Today almost four months later, we received a statement for the full charge with a big red PAST DUE stamped on it—still not a single reply to any of our correspondence. Who wants to fight with an attorney?

I have decided it is not worth the time and hassle to deal with someone who can't or won't respond to our questions. It seems all he wants is the steepest fee he can get, and he has no intention of discussing anything with us.

I can't recommend his services. To say he is unprofessional is an understatement. I am still amazed that he can't reply to a client he did work for on two separate occasions with questions about their bill. If it were me, I'd look elsewhere.

Bill Did our trust originally and did such a good job that my mother had him redo hers. When she passed away everything went like clockwork. Perfect!! since then he has done my brothers and will be doing my children's trusts. He's easy to work with and a reasonable price.

Clients seem to exist solely for the benefit of Mr. Prater. My wife and I have tried since 2014 to put in place our estate planning and will with this attorney, and after almost $1500 it still is not done. Our initial consultation went fine and he seemed like a nice person, but he does not respond to emails regarding questions we have had. After reviewing the papers he created for us and turning them in to his office, we waited and waited and never heard back from him. Apparently it was our responsibility to contact him again, and the only way to see him is by guessing when he is completed with the work and by setting up an appointment through his secretary - this turned out to be a catastrophe when she gave us a date and time that did not correspond with the real calendar date!! The date that I guessed was the appointment turned out to be incorrect, and my wife was working the other day. When I went to the office to keep the appointment, the secretary asked me why my wife was not there because the papers needed notarization and witnessing when they were to be signed by both of us. Save yourself the hassle: Find an attorney who works for his clients and not vice versa!
