We met with a very nice lady at the front desk from Texas who told us all about the haunted history of the jail, which ran from 1901 to 1992! We used our ghost radio app and got some pretty compelling words like boom when we were next to the story of the bank bombing. Cool to look through all the old cells and read the different stories. It takes about 30 -45 minutes to walk through the whole thing, only $5. Definitely interesting, 5/5 recommend if you're in Cripple Creek!

Loved visiting with the pretty lady in the gift shop. Really cool conversation and spoooky paranormal twist ❤️ It’s $5 and wellllllll worth the time to visit. Lots of interesting information, great history. I was certainly impressed with the attention to detail.

We had a pretty cool visit. The price was a little steep for our big group. The employee was a little cranky but hey, what else will you do here if you don't gamble or drink? 🙂

Worth checking it out if you are into history and would like to know what it was like living in Cripple Creek back in the day. A town full of miscreants, free parking is available on the side of the building. Entrance fee is $10. Sad to know they kept the inmates crammed and in sub-human conditions. They were not even given shower or bathing options until the 1930s. Some stayed as long as almost 2 years before being sent to a prison in Colorado Springs or Canon City. They are very proud of their law enforcement personnel though. Special favors from prostitutes behind closed doors and treating them like trash along with the "Noble Father's" of town. Business as usual.

Edit/Update: This original review was from 3 years ago hence $10 entrance fee comment, it has been changed to $5 I guess. As far as some of my comments all you have to do is visit the town and get your own feel after you visit the mine and dig a little in addition to exploring the welcome history and cultural center. This town had electricity before NY for example, then again anything could be a lie now these days ("phony media and print and pictures") LOL!

Great museum! Not a great tour with a stroller but they’re super friendly about you trying. The first part is an employee giving you the background and a summary of what you’re going to see. Then you are free to roam the cell block, matrons quarters and women/children cell. There is some great prints of historic articles with accompanying art. It was a fun tour, most of the cells are open to walk into. My 5yr old had a blast as did we.

This place is a must see when here in Cripple Creek. Amazing how advanced it was for being built at the turn of the century.

The tour was short but insightful. Lots to look at & the gift shop was tastefully stocked with some great stuff at very reasonable prices.

Jack Dempsey (the boxer) even stayed here for a quick minute.
