Look I know no one likes dealing with debt collectors- but we do it to ourselves. These ladies were so fantastic, they were very professional, personable, and very understanding to our situation. Eventhough we couldnt do the numbers we wanted to, they were very thorough as to why and was very willing to work with us which is so rare. They were also very knowledgeable and patient explaining the answer to any of my questions. If I ever have the unfortunate nature to deal with a debt collector again, I really hope its this firm.

Accepted a settlement offer online on March 15th. They require a routing and account number. 5 days after receiving a receipt that everything went thru it apparently fell through. With that the settlement offer was off the table and did not bother calling or nothing. Spoke with a Michelle and she was pretty useless. Now there's no offer and we're back to pulling from each paycheck. What a joke smh

UPDATE

The company incurred a debt with Upstart/Velocity through a loan that was offered to me in a manner that I find to be excessively aggressive and potentially exploitative. I accepted the loan without being fully informed of its terms and conditions. As a person with a disability experiencing fluctuating financial resources, I would not have chosen this option had I been provided with clearer information or pursued a more transparent provider. Due to my disability, I faced challenges in keeping up with payments, resulting in the closure of the account and its transfer to collections. My frustration is compounded by the fact that Upstart wrote off the account as bad debt, securing 100% tax relief from the government, and subsequently sold my account to another company which is now attempting to collect the original debt plus substantial interest. This practice of 'double dipping' into funds raises significant ethical concerns. Furthermore, the company to which my debt was sold, Mountain Peak Law Group, has been uncooperative in negotiating a feasible monthly payment amount. Despite my repeated explanations that I cannot afford their proposed $85 monthly payment, they compelled me to sign an agreement under duress during a court proceeding. This situation has led to default, placing me at risk of homelessness and jeopardizing my recent employment due to potential garnishment or the inability to meet their financial demands. For nearly a year, I have been borrowing money to meet the agreed payment, which has placed me under considerable financial strain. As a disabled individual, I believe that providers like Upstart and Mountain Peak Law Group should not exploit vulnerable individuals like myself. I urgently seek assistance to address this unjust situation and ensure fair treatment for disabled individuals in financial matters.

Their response that "the defendant is using this complaint to re-negotiate" is incredibly insensitive and highlights the nature of this company. Numerous complaints and reviews echo my concerns, and their reaction only validates my position. They did not offer me an option to negotiate; instead, they strong-armed me into agreeing by stating, "They don’t have any other option." I completely disagree with their response and intend to pursue this further with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) if possible. As a person with a disability, I find their response egregious and offensive, exacerbating the situation negatively.

They worked with us some months ago to settle a debt my daughter had. That was good. But then they didn't clear the debt off her credit report. When I asked them to do that, their response was, "We don't ever do that." That is bad.

Can't get straight answer from these people and no ones wants to take time to explain. The lady i spoke to was talking extra fast. All i wanted to do is make a settlement plan. Should not be this hard.

They use tactics that are prohibited by The Colorado Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. For a supposed “law firm” you think they’d know the laws, but I think they’re aware that what they’re doing is illegal. I suggest anyone who has to deal with them file a complaint the the attorney general’s office. They send out their little errand boys to harass you, even if you’re not the person who owes them any debts. I’m pretty sure the balding man child they sent to my door was watching my apartment to make sure I was home because he knocked immediately after I came back. He also refused to acknowledge even after showing him my ID that I was not the person he was looking for and fairly sure he forged my partner’s signature. Do not answer the door for these people, you have no legal obligation to and they have no legal right to be at your door.

Edit: Since they wanted to go the legal route, I will as well. Your legal team should refer to 2017 Colorado Revised Statutes Title 5 - Consumer Credit Code Management Article 16 - Colorado Fair Debt Collection Practices Act§ 5-16-107. False or misleading representations

1) A debt collector or collection agency shall not use any false, deceptive, or misleading representation or means in connection with the collection of any debt, including, but not limited to, the following conduct:

(b) The false representation of:

(I) The character, amount, or legal status of any debt; or

(II) Any services rendered or compensation which may be lawfully received by any debt collector for the collection of a debt;

(c) The false representation or implication that any individual is an attorney or that any communication is from an attorney;

(d) The representation or implication that nonpayment of any debt will result in the arrest or imprisonment of any person or in the seizure, garnishment, attachment, or sale of any property or wages of any person unless the action is lawful and the debt collector, collection agency, or creditor intends to take such action;

(e) The threat to take any action that cannot legally be taken or that is not intended to be taken;

(n) The false representation or implication that documents are legal process;

Horrible. If I wasn’t stuck dealing with them for collections, I’d never be in any kind of business with them. “Returned” checks for payments a few times now with no reason behind it, no balance returned into my accounts. Trash. Avoid if you can.

They provide the wrong address so people can't submit their replies in time and then they try to say you didn't do your part. Scammers. Be aware
