I don’t usually leave Google reviews, but I wanted to share my experience so that others with more complex cases can make an informed decision.

I scheduled an initial consultation with Attorney Marlene based on the many 5-star reviews. The meeting itself went well, and she seemed kind and thoughtful. However, later that day, she emailed saying that due to the complexity of my case, she wasn’t sure how to proceed and needed time to do more research.

Eventually, she got back to me saying there wasn’t anything I could do at the moment and shared just one article to support her claim that I’d need to wait for my I-829 to be denied before applying for a marriage-based green card. But that path could lead to removal or deportation proceedings, which might force me to return to my home country and apply abroad—leaving my husband behind in the U.S. That’s the worst-case scenario I’m trying to avoid, and it made me question the reliability of her advice.

I followed up by sharing additional information I found on my own, including examples of people in similar situations who were able to successfully file both the I-130 and I-485. After that, Marlene said she would be open to representing me in my case.
What’s even more concerning is imagining someone in a similar situation just taking her initial advice and doing nothing. That could lead to serious consequences, like being placed in removal proceedings or having to leave the country unnecessarily. It’s not just a matter of poor service—it could deeply impact someone’s life!

The fact that she initially told me there was nothing I could do—without doing further research—and only later reconsidered after I brought new information to her attention, made me question her credibility. Because of that, I decided not to move forward with her as my attorney.

I’m only sharing this to help others with more complex immigration cases know that the service may not always be a perfect fit, even with highly rated professionals. It’s worth getting a second opinion if your case is a bit outside the norm.
