Ok so I'll make this as short and simple as possible, Legal Aid is a waste of time, At least it was for me, I went there at least 7 to 8 times over a 27 yr period for help with joint custody of my first child as well as other issues pertaining to my child custody case and according to the one and only public pretender that I was forced to see every time I was there he said I was well prepared with all the documents that he would need to help me, Apparently not many people show up as prepared as I was so of course I thought I had it in the bag to receive help with my cases, After each hours long session with this so called attorney I either got a call to come back in or a call telling me plain out that he could not represent me and gave no reason for the decision and what made it worse was he didn't even have the courtesy to tell me himself, Each time I was denied much later I would go back for another reason and plainly ask for a different attorney and would still end up with him, The last time I went and the same thing happened I had a few choice words for him and the entire organization, And then walked out never to return, Now maybe your situation will be different but if I was you I would look into REAL attorneys that will take you case Pro-Bono or as long as it's not a divorce or child custody case you can go to places like christian legal services or one of the other, CLS won't take you case if it means the separation of family since they are all about keeping families together but other ORG. Will be able to help, All I know is from my experiences from Legal Aid is just not worth the stress, So good luck to you and I hope it works out for you, Because they didn't do me any favors.
