I had to come here and used Rick Dyar as my lawyer. He FAILED ME. HE DID NOT FIGHT FOR ME OR MY DAUGHTER. EVERY TIME I ASKED FOR MY EX TO BE HELD IN CONTEMPT I WAS TOLD IT WAS A "WASTE OF TIME" I WAS TOLD BRINGING UP THE ABUSE I ENDURED AT MY EXS HANDS WAS A "WASTE OF TIME" ANY TIME MY EX MADE A DEMAND INSTEAD OF FIGHTING FOR ME HE ASKED "WHY DONT YOU JUST AGREE WITH HIM" HE WAS LITERALLY TRYING TO TAKE MY RIGHTS BC I LEFT HIM. BC HE WAS MAD AND THE LAWYER WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO FIGHT FOR M.E. DID EVERYTHING B.U.T. THAT!!! If he had filed the contempt paperwork there would have been a paper trail showing how he was trying to use my daughter to control me. He was allowing this man to continue to mentally abuse me, using my kid. I REGRET EVER ASKING HIM TO BE MY LAWYER! IF YOU GO THERE DO N.O.T. GET HIM!! I LEFT CRYING EVERY SINGLE TIME I LEFT BC HE FLAT OUT WAS NOT DOING ANYTHING AT ALL TO HELP ME FIGHT FOR MY BABY! THE LAST TIME WE WENT TO COURT I ASKED THE JUDGE WHY MY DAUGHTER WASNT BACK WITH ME AFTER I DID EVERYTHING THEY ASKED (JOB, NEW HOUSE ETC BC WHEN I LEFT HIM I HAD NOTHING! ) SHE SAID "YOUR LAWYER DID NOT FILE THE PAPERWORK! I CUSSED HIM OUT IN FRONT OF THE JUDGE AND HES NOT MY LAWYER ANYMORE. NOW IM STUCK TRYING TO FIND A NEW LAWYER AND I HAVE HARDLY ANY MONEY WHILE HER DAD MARRIED INTO MONEY AND MY DAUGHTER IS SUFFERING. DO N.O.T. USE RICK DYAR!!! HE SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO BE A LAWYER!

Attorney John Stewart was very helpful to me during my telephone interview and consultation. He told me some upsetting facts, but took the time to make sure I understood the next 3 steps I needed to do in order to get a positive resolution to my dilemma. Thank you John!

Receptionist was completely rude and couldn't be bothered with a simple question, why offer assistance when the lady answering the phone is a very strong deterrent! Remove her please!

Update 9/12/2023: Paperwork can now be scanned into your individual file.
This place offers free legal services for people who have no to low income.
Phone lines open at 9:30am. They operate on a first come first served basis by appointment only. After randomly called them, it took me a 2 weeks to get an appointment.
I learned that they do not order copies of cases files, so you're need to make sure you bring your own copies. They also don't receive documents via fax or email. So, if you get an appointment, be ready with all the information pertaining to your case and things will work out more efficiently.
The office is very clean and only people with appointments will be seen. The building does have full-time law enforcement on duty.

Ok so I'll make this as short and simple as possible, Legal Aid is a waste of time, At least it was for me, I went there at least 7 to 8 times over a 27 yr period for help with joint custody of my first child as well as other issues pertaining to my child custody case and according to the one and only public pretender that I was forced to see every time I was there he said I was well prepared with all the documents that he would need to help me, Apparently not many people show up as prepared as I was so of course I thought I had it in the bag to receive help with my cases, After each hours long session with this so called attorney I either got a call to come back in or a call telling me plain out that he could not represent me and gave no reason for the decision and what made it worse was he didn't even have the courtesy to tell me himself, Each time I was denied much later I would go back for another reason and plainly ask for a different attorney and would still end up with him, The last time I went and the same thing happened I had a few choice words for him and the entire organization, And then walked out never to return, Now maybe your situation will be different but if I was you I would look into REAL attorneys that will take you case Pro-Bono or as long as it's not a divorce or child custody case you can go to places like christian legal services or one of the other, CLS won't take you case if it means the separation of family since they are all about keeping families together but other ORG. Will be able to help, All I know is from my experiences from Legal Aid is just not worth the stress, So good luck to you and I hope it works out for you, Because they didn't do me any favors.
