This looked like a great fort but I was surprised they didn’t have a military or veteran discount since it’s a military fort. Customer service goes a long way in our eyes. They did have some great prices on some jewelry in the gift shop though.

Love Fort Gaines. Well preserved, although time and environmental factors are playing into the status of this fort. There is a museum that provides a little reprieve from the summer heat. If you are coming from Fort Morgan side or anticipate going to Fort Morgan- please adhere to the ferry schedules.

This was one of our favorite places on the island! Having teenagers I was expecting the “oh great, another museum” but instead as we were leaving all three were talking about how awesome it was!

Make sure to visit the Bastion Magazines on the corners. These rooms were awesome!

Awesome history with this fort. We spent over an hour walking around looking at everything. Just about all the rooms were open and you could walk down into bunker like tunnels. We even got to hear one of the small cannons go off. They have a little museum on the grounds with pictures and artifacts that have been found around. Very cool place.
