Divorce is horrible by itself. Annette and her staff made the process so much worse. Forgot or blew off appointments made by me and spouses attorney, only conduct business via email, used legal jargon I didn’t understand and when I asked for clarity both she and her staff were condescending. These items were horrible and then I get a letter from Annette telling me she will withdraw my case unless I ‘replenish’ my retainer. Somehow, my $4500 was blown although she and her staff did very little for me. She wanted another $2500 and since money was tight, I asked if she could reduce the replenishment. She sent me an angry, unprofessional email back comparing her services to a surgeon (neither her bedside manner nor her skills are anything close to a surgeon). I just received my final bill for her as somehow she blew through the last $500 in my retainer although she did very little for me. She nickel and dimed me the entire process and when I asked for clarification on the billing statement, her response was very unprofessional. I would have received better service hiring a paralegal. Save yourself further hardship and find another attorney who actually cares about her clients.

I had a contentious divorce with an abusive ex-partner who used the family court system to terrorize me for over a year. I don’t feel like my case was handled with the same amount of urgency as her other clients and believe that most of what happened could have been minimized or avoided by responding to his lawyer promptly. At the end of my divorce, I was charged some $900 just for my lawyer to send me a paragraph with the link to my finalized decree and submit a motion to withdraw as my attorney. When I reached out to ask about the return of my remaining retainer, the staff was rude in their response to me saying that they had up to 60 days to return my retainer (“if any”) and that they never promised me anything. My divorce finalized in November and I asked about my remaining retainer so I could buy my children Christmas presents. They didn’t end up returning until much longer than that. I think it ended up being 4-5 months. I was incorrectly billed on more than 1 occasion and asked to replenish my retainer because my payments weren’t being added to my account. When I reached out for updates, I was told that my case would be handled with the same amount of attention and they had to prioritize their clients, which I get, but felt very much like I wasn’t being listened to. I was basically told to wait my turn. I sent a plethora of digital evidence (video, photos, screenshots) that didn’t end up being reviewed or presented at my trial because she “didnt have time to review it.” I believe the video evidence that I had could have helped my credibility with the judge but instead ended up getting reprimanded for following my attorney’s recommendation to hire a forensic psychiatrist for thousands of dollars and the judge ended up thinking I was being vindictive and using my kids as pawns.

On the day of the actual trial, Annette was well spoken and did a great job at communicating our points. I just really wish she had the time to address my case in the beginning before things blew up and started to get really bad. I don’t think it would have escalated as much as it did if it were handled quicker. They were spread too thin.
